One of four Belgian herding varieties, the Malinois takes its name from the city of Malines. Compact, powerfully built, and possessed of extraordinary drive, it has become the preeminent choice for police, military, and protection work worldwide — prized for a work ethic that rarely rests.

Very high — needs a job, extensive daily exercise, and consistent mental challenge; not suited to a sedentary home.

Short, straight double coat, sheds moderately year-round with heavier seasonal shedding.
