Classic Skunk Odor Remover
A hydrogen peroxide and baking soda mix that chemically breaks down skunk oil far more effectively than tomato juice, the old folk remedy that mostly just masks the smell.
Prep: 5 minutes
Bake: Apply and rinse within 5 minutes
Yield: Enough for one medium dog
Ingredients
1 quart 3% hydrogen peroxide
1/4 cup baking soda
1 tsp liquid dish soap

Mix all ingredients together in an open container just before use — the mixture fizzes and shouldn’t be stored sealed.

Working outdoors if possible, wet the dog’s coat and work the mixture in thoroughly, avoiding the eyes and mouth.

Let sit for about 5 minutes, keeping an eye on the coat.

Rinse thoroughly with plain water.

Repeat if needed, and follow with a regular dog shampoo bath once the odor has faded.
Storage Tip
Mix immediately before use only — never store in a sealed container, as the reaction can build pressure.
