The breed’s small jaw often crowds teeth, raising periodontal disease risk; daily brushing and regular dental checkups matter.
Preventive Care
Eye and hip clearances from a breeder cover the most significant hereditary risks. Daily tooth brushing and regular dental cleanings meaningfully reduce periodontal disease risk. Because the Havanese is so people-oriented, gradual alone-time training also supports its emotional wellbeing.
Did You Know?
The Havanese’s silky coat, unlike many double-coated breeds, sheds very little, which is part of why the breed is often considered a good option for allergy-sensitive households.
