Descended from Roman drover dogs that accompanied legions and their cattle across the Alps, the Rottweiler later became a prized cattle-driving and cart-pulling dog in the German town of Rottweil. Powerfully built and deeply loyal, it remains one of the most capable working and protection breeds today.
