Bred for centuries in the Pyrenees Mountains to guard sheep flocks independently, often alone for days at a time, the Great Pyrenees is a large, thickly coated breed with a calm but fiercely protective nature. It bonds deeply with its flock or family and is naturally wary of unfamiliar threats.

Males 27–32 in. tall, 100+ lbs; females 25–29 in. tall, 85+ lbs.
