Bred by the Chukchi people of Siberia to pull light loads over vast distances at speed, the Siberian Husky is a striking, endurance-built breed famous for its piercing eyes and thick coat. Highly social, it is often too friendly to make a good guard dog.

12–14 years.

Huskies were the breed behind the famous 1925 serum relay to Nome, Alaska, an event that inspired the modern Iditarod race.

Size
Males 21–23.5 in. tall, 45–60 lbs; females 20–22 in. tall, 35–50 lbs.
Energy Level
Very high — bred for sustained running, needs substantial daily exercise.
Coat & Grooming
Thick double coat; heavy seasonal shedder, blows coat twice yearly.
Good With Families
Friendly and social with people, including strangers, but has a strong prey drive around small animals.
