Bred by the Mahlemut people of Alaska to haul heavy freight over long distances, the Malamute is among the oldest Arctic sled breeds. Larger and more powerfully built than its Siberian Husky cousin, it combines strength and endurance with an unusually friendly, pack-oriented temperament.
